McIlroy is heading back to the course where he won his second major championship. He returned to form with success at the Wells Fargo Finals after a poor leap of play earlier this year that does include missed cuts at The Players Championship and the Masters.

The Ocean Course is a 7,849-yard par 72 with huge Paspalum greens.

betmg pgaFavorite picks for the 2021 PGA Championship

BetMGM gave the odds; for a complete list, go to USA TODAY Sports’ betting odds. Lines were last updated at 6:20 a.m. ET on Monday.

Rory McIlroy (+1100)

In 2012, McIlroy was the only player to reach double digits under par due to bad weather. As a result, the PGA Tour futures odds had him as one of the favorites to win the 2021 PGA Championship, although he stood at +1600 after missing the cut at the Masters.

Those who lost out on those odds will receive a smaller return on the investment, but they will undoubtedly receive a better version of the previous world No. 1.

At the Wells Fargo, McIlroy was in the top ten in the field in Strokes Gained: Tee-to-Green and SG: Approach. Over the weekend, he finished third in SG: Placing and made numerous crucial sand saves.

Contender for the 2021 PGA Championship

Joaquin Niemann (+6600)

Niemann is listed No. 8 in the world by Golfweek/Sagarin, but he has just the 26th-best odds to win. The 22-year-old has missed the cut in both of the previous two PGA Championships, however, he tied for 23rd at the US Open last fall. To start the calendar year, he had back-to-back runner-up results in Hawaii, and he tied for 40th in the Masters in April.

The Chilean is a fantastic iron player, posting 0.76 SG: Off-the-Tee per round in 51 measured rounds this tournament.

Picks for the 2021 PGA Championship — Long shot

Dylan Frittelli (+25000)

The PGA Championship has given a slew of long-shot champions throughout the years, and Frittelli is deserving of a tiny bet, with a $10 stake generating a $2,500 payoff.

The Ocean Course’s most difficult challenges (apart from the weather) are the sand bunkers and dunes that surround practically every striking play. In terms of sand save %, the South African ranks 56th on Tour and third in SG: Around-the-Green.

Last year, he tied for 33rd at the PGA Championship, after a shocking T-5 result at the Masters in November.
